This week, Governor Nathan Deal announced DRASTIC cuts to the HOPE scholarship. These cuts are a direct attack on the right of all people to access education, regardless of how much money they make. Under the new plan, students will have to graduate from high school with a 3.7, have a 1200 SAT score, and maintain a 3.5 through college to receive full HOPE. This also applies to students currently in college!
These policies will affect both current students and future students. Georgia politicians are PURPOSELY trying to pass this bill in less than a week after it was introduced so that students and workers don’t have time to mobilize and fight back! But this assault on public education won’t go down without a fight!
On March 2nd, we will rally at the capitol to make our voices heard loud and clear. STOP THE CUTS! STOP DEFUNDING OUR FUTURES! STOP THE ATTACKS ON HOPE AND EDUCATION!
9 am – Meet in Hurt Park, march to capitol
10 am – Rally at Georgia Capitol steps
Bring signs, chants, and your voices! Spread the word
March 2 stands as the National Day to Defend Public Education. Georgia Students for Public Higher Education fully endorse the national call on March 2 and we stand in solidarity with our fellow students across the nation and across the world. Fight the budget cuts!
